OVERALL CONFERENCE BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES 

 

At the end of this conference the participants will be able to:

 

1.      Discuss the roles of service and therapy dogs in the special education classroom.

 

2.      Develop applications within individual systems for psychiatric service animals.

 

3.      Discuss the role service animals have in the mental health system.

 

4.      Apply service animal training techniques in the mental health system.

 

5. Utilize service animals in the mental health treatment system.

 

6.      Discuss the use of therapy dogs with at-risk and delinquent youth.

 

7.      Understand the issues involved in job seeking as a person with a disability partnered with a service animal.

 

8.      Develop therapeutic treatment plans and protocols for the use of therapy animals in the health and human service settings.

 

9.      Understand the parental perspective that service and therapy animals have with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

 

10.  Discuss nutritional considerations kibble vs. raw food diet for service and therapy animals,

 

11.  Enumerate the process of developing a junior volunteer service dog training program.

 

12.  Utilize clicker and positive reinforcement training techniques in training service and therapy animals.
